Dave Smith's Prophet 5
The world of polyphonic synthesizers is unthinkable without Sequential Circuit, and more specifically, without Dave Smith. The engineer and synth developer created the first commercial polyphonic synth with full memory capability. This allowed users for the very first time to store sounds and recall them.Â
But the innovative design of the Prophet 5 was only one reason why the Poly Synth is Sequential Circuits’ most successful. The other reason is the stunning full sound of the instrument, especially the pad sounds inspired many artists such as Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre and so many more. There is hardly a synth where so many presets are universally known and have drilled into people’s ears through radio songs over the years.
