The Korg Trident MK1, released in 1980, united 3 devices in one, as it came with a Synth-, a Brass- and a String-section at 8-voice polyphony. Two sections can be played simultaneously, in split-mode. As one of the first synths of the time, it featured an on-board flanger-effect. The Trident MK1’s memory bank stores a total of 16 tone color programs, “presets” if you will. It was especially useful for soft & silky pad-like sounds and replacing stacks of different synths by combining 3 in one. An upgraded version, called Trident MKII, was released in 1982.
