Alongside Robert Moog, it was above all Don Buchla who shaped the world of modular synthesizers. Don Buchla is a visionary of electronic sounds, as he developed extraordinary instruments with unique capabilities and still ultra-futuristic controllers in the 1960s.
At the same time, on the East Coast of America, a certain Robert Moog developed a similar, modular concept of electronic sound synthesis that had various aesthetic and technical differences.
One important difference is that Buchla synths are equipped with sequencers and touch-sensitive contact surfaces. Because of its bubbling and atmospheric spacey sound, the Buchla Music Easel is nowadays often used in ambient pieces, but the sound can also convince in all other electronic music areas.
